The artist, Frédérique Lavios, was educated in the visual arts and licensed as an architect. She incorporates the three dimensional, sculptural qualities from one profession to the other. Each ceramic tile mural is hand-painted using many different layers of glaze to bring depth, texture and vitality to each piece, and then kiln fired for beauty and durability. Lavios derives inspiration from nature including salmon, trout, orchids, irises, sunflowers, lavender, vineyards, grapes, olives and landscapes including those of the Pacific Northwest, provincial France and Italy. The influence of historical designs such the Italian pottery from towns of Deruta and Umbria can be seen in the artist's Renaissance line of ceramics. All of the ceramics are food safe unless noted otherwise.
