The artist, Frédérique Lavios, was educated in the visual arts and licensed as an architect. She incorporates the three dimensional, sculptural qualities from one profession to the other. Each piece is hand-painted using many different layers of glaze to bring depth, texture and vitality to each piece. Lavios derives inspiration from nature including salmon, trout, orchids, irises, sunflowers, lavender, vineyards, grapes, olives and landscapes of provincial France and Italy. The influence of historical designs such the Italian pottery from towns of Deruta and Umbria can be seen in the artist's Renaissance line of ceramics. Her work includes functional art such as bowls, platters, pitchers and tables. Also available is her line of colorful ceramic tiles and murals including her popular landscapes of Provence and nature scenes of salmon runs. All of the artist's ceramics are food safe unless noted otherwise.
